Location: The Netherlands
Have you heard? About that family down the street? they make truly taste, premium patties, badass buns and superior sauces. they are rising from the shadows of a dark kitchen. stepping into the light and creating an empire!
The Concept
Inspired by mafia culture, the design we created embodies a distinctive duality between “upper world" and “under world" themes, where the lawyer with the briefcase can steal more money than the guy with the gun. It begins at the front of the house with “The Clean Façade,” a polished exterior that conceals what unfolds behind the scenes. In contrast, “The Kitchen” reflects the darker side of the concept—gritty and raw, representing what can’t stand the light of day.
The Challenge
Our challenge was to help transform the existing 'dark kitchen' and online concept of 'The Burger Maffia', which currently operates two locations in Amsterdam, into a physical, welcoming restaurant experience. Besides that our task was also to ensure that the concept could be scaled consistently across future locations. This required us to design for potential new locations while maintaining a cohesive and engaging brand experience.
The Design
The concept incorporates a dynamic contrast between the front of the house, which is designed with a vintage New York vibe and warm aesthetics with a Tarantino-like twist. And the kitchen, which reflects the gritty and raw underworld with darker, industrial elements, such as bullet holes, metal, and neon lighting. The combination of these two contrasting zones mirrors the ambition of The Burger Maffia and its mafia narrative, while building an empire of burger greatness across both ends of the spectrum.
