THE CHALLENGE
The original restaurant served many purposes, yet its identity had not been clearly defined. As a high-volume venue, especially during breakfast service for up to 1,600 guests, the space worked hard operationally but lacked a narrative that guests could connect with.

Rather than feeling cohesive, the experience needed more clarity, character, and a sense of place. The opportunity was to reimagine the venue as a dynamic destination that could transition smoothly throughout the day, offering variety while remaining unified. Kalea needed distinct zones with purpose and personality, creating an experience that felt intuitive, welcoming, and memorable for every guest. 

THE DESIGN
The design unfolds across three complementary experiences.

Kalea The heart of the venue. A warm and inclusive hub shaped for connection. The layout transitions seamlessly between breakfast service and all-day dining, supported by a variety of zones that accommodate solo guests, families, and groups. The morning experience transforms the entire space into a diverse breakfast journey through The Bakery, The Butchery, The Spice Emporium, and The Bar. Once breakfast ends, the venue separates back into three distinct outlets: Kalea, Daily Scoop, and Kahuna.  

THE CONCEPT
The idea was to create a contemporary take on a food hall. A place where variety and unity live side by side. Each outlet was designed with its own character, yet all connected through the warmth and accessibility of the overarching Kalea identity.

At its core, the concept celebrates togetherness through food. It is rooted in family-friendly experiences, intuitive zoning, and playful storytelling. Kalea’s personality remains grounded and welcoming, while Daily Scoop and Kahuna introduce layers of charm, discovery, and bold flavour.

The vision was to offer spaces that are simple and approachable, yet distinctive enough to stand alone as destinations worth returning to.

Daily Scoop
A whimsical ice cream parlour inspired by the playfulness of Wonderland. The design is filled with moments of surprise and discovery that capture the imagination of children and adults alike. From enchanting colours to interactive pockets of delight, every visit feels like stepping into a new chapter. 

Kahuna
A bold and expressive family-friendly concept shaped by the spirit of the legendary Big Kahuna. With playful branding, energetic colours, and oversized pan-style pizzas, Kahuna offers a light-hearted escape. The design celebrates generosity and laughter, creating an atmosphere that feels like the joyful chaos of family holidays.

Together, these spaces form a layered dining journey that flows with clarity and coherence. Kalea brings comfort, Daily Scoop brings wonder, and Kahuna brings energy. The collective experience is vibrant, intuitive, and designed to leave a lasting impression that goes beyond the meal.
