THE CHALLENGE
Kaimana isn’t just a venue—it’s a story. Tasked with bringing the Legend of Kaimana to life, we set out to create a space that honours Polynesian culture while delivering a luxurious, modern beachside experience.
With its setting where land meets ocean, the challenge was to design a destination that felt both deeply rooted and refreshingly original. One that could embody heritage without falling into cliché, and offer guests more than escapism—a genuine sense of belonging.
THE CONCEPT
Inspired by ancient myth and living tradition, Kaimana was envisioned as a sensory journey through the Pacific. At its heart lies a powerful narrative: the spirit of the ocean uniting communities across islands and generations. We drew from this legend not as decoration, but as foundation—guiding every material, structure, and spatial gesture. The aim? To celebrate the interconnectedness of people, place, and planet through story-driven, sustainable design.
THE DESIGN
Kaimana unfolds like a voyage: from the forested depths of the kelp-inspired interiors to the wide-open embrace of the beach and lagoon. Every area—bar, lounge, dining, terrace, pool—is designed to flow seamlessly, evoking the rhythm of ocean life.
The bamboo canopies—built in partnership with Asali Bali—are inspired by the hulls of traditional Pacific canoes, honouring craftsmanship while minimising environmental impact. Meanwhile, wooden finishes and hand-carved panelling add warmth and authenticity, embedding artisanal heritage into the fabric of the space.
Coral reef motifs and oceanic hues—deep blues, coral pinks, and sun-washed oranges—create an atmosphere that feels both energising and serene. The pool area becomes the gathering lagoon, where celebration and storytelling live on.
The result? A space where legend becomes lived experience. Where cultural depth meets contemporary comfort. And where every design choice flows back to one source: the spirit of Kaimana.
